Essentials 16-22 Bundle

As in previous Units, lessons begin with listening for how the sounds in the language shift as clues to spelling rules and phonograms. In the Exploring Sounds section students will discover clues for if consonants are doubled or not, reasons for a silent L, and the relationship between I and Y.

In Units 16-22 students learn 10 multi-letter phonograms, 9 reasons for a silent final E and how to add a suffix accurately to any word ending with a Silent E. They also learn about single vowel Y and how to add a suffix to any word ending with Y.

With three differentiated lists, students continue to build their skills and ability to analyze the spelling of any English word. By the end of Unit 22 Level A students are analyzing words like guide, bicycle, and together. Level B - language, imaginary, and cinnamon. Level C - peculiar, enthusiastic, and achieve.

Pronouns, prepositions, adverbs, coordinate adjectives, and linking verbs further help students understand the structure of a written sentence in English.

Units 16-22 continues to demonstrate how English spelling is a balance of sounds and meaning. Level A students learn 7 morphemes and contractions. Level B students learn 12 morphemes and how to add more than one suffix to a word. Level C students are introduced to 36 additional morphemes.

Long and more complex texts continue to support students who are developing literacy skills and need the additional support of controlled texts. Texts in these units build language comprehension skills and introduce new genres like tall tales and poetry.
